Car Donation Program

Are you thinking of selling or trading in that old car or other vehicle?

Why not donate it instead? As a charitable contribution, your donation could make a big difference. The Suicide and Crisis Foundation of Santa Clara County vehicle donation program is made possible through Penney’s Towing. It is simple, quick and convenient. Donate a car, truck or RV and receive a tax deductible donation.

Please visit IRS Publication 4303 for the revised Donor’s Guide to Car Donations.

Frequently Asked Questions…

  1. What Can I Donate? Vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and other items. Contact Penney’s for more information.

  2. My car hasn’t run in years! Can I still donate it? Yes, Penney’s is able to accept most vehicles, running or not. (Exceptions include older vehicles where value would not offset the cost of towing. The exception to this is a classic vehicle). Vehicles must have all parts present. To find out if Penney’s can accept your vehicle, please contact them at (408) 289-9918.

  3. What do I need to donate my vehicle? All paperwork and vehicle clearance through the DMV is taken care of by Penney’s Towing. You just need to have the Certificate of Title (pink slip) as proof of ownership and the vehicle key.

  4. How will my car be picked up? Penney’s will contact you to make arrangements to have your vehicle towed away. They are a professional, licensed, bonded and insured towing company since 1978.

  5. How long will it take to pick up my car? It will take approximately 15 minutes. Times (1/2 hour windows) and dates are arranged, six days a week.

  6. I live outside the South Bay Area. Can I still donate my car? Yes. Penney’s Towing will accept donations from the greater Bay Area including San Francisco.

  7. Is my donation tax deductible? Under the new tax laws, car donations qualify for minimum $500. W hen the car sells, if over $500, a postcard will be mailed to the donor showing sales amount. However, if the car runs and is in fairly good condition, we try and sell it to a “disadvantaged” person; and then the fair market value would apply.

  8. How does my tax donation work? See #7.

  9. How can I schedule a pick up? Contact Penney’s Towing at (408) 289-9918 or by email penneystow@aol.com. Phones are answered 7 days a week.
