Speaker Bureau Program
Through the Speakers Bureau Program, we strive to give
the community
-
the necessary tools to understand suicide
-
to provide an understanding for reasons for suicide
or suicidal feelings
-
to enable recognition of signs of severe depression
and suicidal thoughts and behaviors
-
and to provide the resources to those individuals
feeling suicidal or who are in crisis.
The Foundation is compromised of experienced volunteers
who have been trained in suicide and crisis prevention, intervention and “postvention.”
Suicide has touched each of personally and our experience has led us to the
common goals of the Foundation.
The Speakers Bureau emphasizes suicide awareness and prevention through
participatory presentations to local schools, organizations, resource fairs,
and events. Presentations are adaptable and target specific audiences
ranging from students to professionals.
We will provide written materials including a resource pamphlet that the
Foundation has created as part of our mission to promote suicide prevention
in the community. These materials are intended to serve as guides to the
resources that are available to those who are in crisis and those who are
feeling suicidal, and their friends and family.
Our presentations range 50-75 minutes, allowing at least 10 minutes at the
end for questions. Our preferred audience is at minimum 14 years of age due
to the sensitive and serious nature of our program. Previous presentations
have been for audiences ranging in size from as few as 5 participants to up
to 50, although we will entertain invitations for groups of all sizes,
including school/company wide (100+) assemblies/meetings.
While we love to accommodate all requests, scheduling is based on our
volunteers’ availability.
